The following interview is part of a cutting-edge series of video interviews called Parenting Today: Raising Strong, Resilient Kids being aired exclusively on Mad in America.

This series has as its aim educating parents about the current mental disorder paradigm as it relates to children. It also offers many useful tips about how to raise more resilient children and how to become a more skillful parent. In this series of more than thirty interviews, we share information about the diverse resources available to parents, including alternative ones.

Today’s guest is Nicole Gibson. Nicole is a fierce ambassador for mental health, advocating for more innovation and connection within mental health care, after recovering from her own terrifying experience with anorexia nervosa as a teenager. At age 21 she was listed as one of the 100 most influential women in Australia and was featured on the cover of the Financial Review. She was the youngest Commonwealth Commissioner of Health in history, advising directly to the Australian Federal Health Minister and the Prime Minister.

She’s currently the CEO of the Rogue and Rouge Foundation and the Startup Apprentice. Nicole has facilitated workshops and presentations with over a quarter million Australians and has spoken at Tedx Oxford. Her book is called Love Out Loud, A Millenial’s Guide to Enlightenment.
